PREDICTION OF THE PROPHETS, IN RELATION TO JESUS
Translation of the postumous writings of Allan Kardec on the study of the nature of Jesus Christ. Fourth in a series.
Testimony of God himself
In addition to the affirmations of Jesus and the opinion of the apostles, there is a testimony whose value the most orthodox believers could not dispute, since they point it constantly as an article of faith: it is that of God himself, that is, that of the prophets speaking by inspiration and announcing the coming of the Messiah. Now, here are the passages of the Bible considered as a prediction of this great event.
"I see Him, but not now; I look at Him, but not at close range; a star came from Jacob, and a scepter rose from Israel, and smote the captains of Moab, and destroyed all the sons of Seth.” (Numbers, 24:17)
"I will raise up to you a prophet like you from among His brethren, and I will put my words in His mouth, and He shall say what I have commanded Him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto the words which He hath spoken in my name, I will ask of Him that account "(Deuteronomy 18:18, 19)
"And it shall come to pass, when the days come, to go unto thy fathers that I will raise up thy seed after thee one of thy sons, and I will establish His kingdom. He will build me a house and I will establish His throne forever. I will be his father, and He shall be my son, and I will not withdraw my mercy from Him, as I have taken Him from Him that was before thee, and will establish Him in my house and in my kingdom forever, and His throne shall be established forever.” (Book of Chronicles 17:11 to 14)
"This is why the Lord Himself will give you a sign: a virgin will become pregnant and bear a son and He will be called Emmanuel." (Isaiah 7:14)
"For the child is born unto us, the Son is given unto us, and the empire is laid upon his shoulders, and His name shall be called the Admirable, the Counselor, the mighty God, the Mighty, the Father of Eternity, the Prince of Peace. "(Isaiah, 9: 5)
"Here is my servant, I will uphold Him; He is My chosen one, My soul has put His affection in Him; I have put My Spirit in Him; He shall execute justice among the nations. He will absolutely not withdraw or precipitate until I have established righteousness on earth and beings will submit to His law "(Isaiah 42: 1-4).)
"He shall rejoice in the work of his soul, and shall be satisfied; and My righteous servant shall justify for many, for the knowledge that they shall have of Him, and He shall snatch them out of their iniquities.”(Isaiah 53:11)
"Rejoice in the extreme, O daughter of Zion; let out a shout of joy, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, thy king shall come unto thee, a righteous and a humble savior, and riding upon an ass, upon the foal of an ass. And I will make the chariots of Ephraim and the horses of Jerusalem and the battle bow disappear, and the king will speak peace to the nations. And their dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth. "(Zechariah 9: 9, 10)
"And He (the Christ) shall stand and rule by the power of the Eternal and with the magnificence of the name of the Eternal your God. And they will return and now He will be glorified to the ends of the earth and He will make peace. "(Micah 5: 4)
The distinction between God and his future envoy is characterized in the most formal way. God designates Him servant, hence subordinate, there is nothing in His words that implies the idea of equality of power, nor of consubstantiality between the two beings. Had God been mistaken and did the men who came three centuries after Jesus Christ see more accurately than He? This seems to be their pretense.
